When a septic tank is overflowing, backing up, smelling badly or simply reaching the end of its useful life, you need clear advice rather than guesswork. Septic Tanks Galway works with homeowners, landlords and rural property owners throughout Galway on septic tank replacement, installation, repairs, emptying, upgrades and wastewater treatment systems. We look at the condition of the existing system, site access, ground conditions and how the property is used before discussing the practical options.
Some jobs are urgent. Others begin with a homeowner wondering whether an older tank still suits the property. Either way, our approach is simple: understand the problem first, explain what the work is likely to involve and help you choose a sensible next step. If you need somebody to look at a septic tank problem anywhere in our Galway service area,
Septic Tanks Galway was founded by Padraig Hynes after more than a decade working around drainage, excavation and rural groundworks in County Galway. Padraig grew up outside Claregalway, where septic tanks, private drainage and difficult ground conditions were simply part of maintaining many family homes. Over the years he saw the same frustration repeatedly: a homeowner might know something was wrong with the septic system but have no clear idea whether they needed emptying, a repair, new pipework, a replacement tank or a more substantial wastewater treatment solution.
He set up the business around a straightforward idea: one local team should be able to look at the whole situation, explain it in plain language and carry out the work with proper attention to access, excavation and the surrounding property. Today Padraig works alongside Aoife Grealish, who coordinates enquiries and job planning, and Martin Fahy, an experienced plant and groundwork technician. The team keeps the focus on practical solutions, tidy working areas and communication that makes sense to people who do not spend every day thinking about septic tanks.
More about us
Every property is different, so we do not treat septic work as a one-size-fits-all job. An older concrete tank serving a farmhouse can present different issues from a modern system serving a recently extended home. Access for machinery, tank position, drainage conditions, the number of people using the property and the condition of connecting pipework can all affect what needs to happen.
Our septic tank replacement service is for systems that are damaged, no longer suitable or beyond a sensible repair. Septic tank installation covers new tanks and planned installations where a suitable system is required. Repairs focus on faults that can be corrected without replacing the complete system. Emptying helps remove accumulated sludge and waste as part of routine maintenance or before further work. Upgrades are intended for properties where the existing arrangement needs improvement, while wastewater treatment systems provide another option where site requirements call for a more advanced approach.
We explain what is involved before work begins and aim to keep disruption controlled around gardens, driveways, farm entrances and other access points. Book an assessment.

We regularly plan work around Oranmore, Claregalway, Tuam, Loughrea, Athenry, Connemara, Barna and Spiddal, Craughwell and Clarinbridge. Galway properties vary enormously: some have straightforward access and established drainage layouts, while others sit on narrow lanes, sloping ground, exposed coastal sites or rural plots where the septic system may have been altered several times over the years.
That local variation matters. Before excavation or replacement work, we consider practical access for equipment, the likely tank position, existing pipe routes and how the surrounding ground is being used. We also know that homeowners often need the problem handled without turning the rest of the property into a building site. Our aim is to organise the work carefully, protect usable access where possible and explain any limitations before machinery starts moving. If you are unsure whether your address falls within our service area, get in touch with your location and a short description of the problem.

A septic problem does not automatically mean the whole system needs replacing. We look at what is happening and explain whether the likely next step is maintenance, repair, upgrading or replacement.
Tank work is not only about the tank itself. Excavation, access, pipe levels and reinstatement all affect how smoothly a job goes, so we approach the system and the surrounding ground together.
Galway includes coastal sites, rural plots, older properties and homes with restricted access. Our planning reflects the practical conditions we regularly encounter around the county.
We handle replacement, installation, repairs, emptying, upgrades and wastewater treatment systems, making it easier to move from initial problem to the appropriate solution.
Septic work can involve machinery and excavation. We plan access carefully, keep working areas controlled and aim to leave the site practical and tidy once the agreed work is complete.
You should understand what is being proposed and why. We avoid unnecessary jargon and explain the important parts of the job before you make a decision.
Common warning signs include slow drains, unpleasant smells, unusually wet ground near the system, wastewater backing up or recurring problems after emptying. These symptoms can have several causes, so an assessment is useful before assuming the tank itself needs replacing.
Sometimes. The right option depends on what has failed, the condition of the tank and pipework, and whether the existing system remains suitable for the property. We aim to explain whether repair is practical before discussing a full replacement.
There is no single interval that suits every property because usage, tank capacity and household size vary. Regular monitoring is important, and a tank should be emptied before sludge accumulation begins affecting how the system works.
